Anzac History Lesson with Ms Lynn

It was a real special day for us in Room 5 today as one of our community members Ms Lynn who comes to our class every Thursday to read with us brought in homemade Anzac biscuits for us.

She shared some very special stories of her grandfather, uncle and oldest brother being in war. It was very emotional listening to real stories about the Anzacs from Ms Lynn. We felt highly informed and emotional.

She told us about what women did when the men went to war and how they helped during the war.

Please click here to view some of the photos of Ms Lynn talking to us. She made all of us guess what the ingredients of Anzac biscuits was at the time of war, so the original recipe.
Some of the students in Room 5 tasted Anzac biscuits for the first time and are feeling confident in having a go at baking them at home with their whanau.

Thank you Ms Lynn. We are very lucky to have you come to our class every Thursday. You are a treasure. We so appreciate you and are thankful for having you with us.

Anzac Day

In our class we have started inquiring into this question- What is Anzac Day and why do we commemorate it? This week we shared what we already know about Anzac Day and completed our Before Reading Slides.

Here are Mokoia and Syntyche's Slides. If you would like to view more please visit our individual blogs on the right hand side of this blog.

Visit from Toitoi

About Toitoi

Toitoi celebrates the creative spirit of young New Zealanders. They believe that their work has purpose and deserves a wide audience.

They publish material with an original and authentic voice that other young people can connect to and be inspired by and that reflects the cultures and experiences of life in New Zealand.

Their philosophy is to treat young writers and artists with respect, handle their work with care and produce a beautifully designed journal of high quality that reflects how much they value and admire them.

Room 5 were lucky enough to be visited by the Toitoi team today. A group of them came to our class and read with small groups and shared some stories with us.

Such an amazing team. Room 5 feel very lucky.

Here are some photos for you to see of us reading with our Toitoi visitors.

Snippets From The Maritime Museum Trip

On Monday 29th March we went to the Maritime Museum in Auckland and it was one of the best trips that most of us have had lately. We learnt a lot about how our ancestors travalled to New Zealand. It was a day full of heaps of new learning.

Here are some posters we made about the Maritime Museum.

Please visit our individual blogs to view more posters with facts about the Maritime Museum.
